Moonfrost Guide

Build mode and decorating your home

Quick answer

Build Mode works wall by wall, and the Decoration Inventory is where furniture and demolish options live. Place the door and test it before finishing the walls, and never delete your workbench in build mode.

Build Mode is where Moonfrost stops being a farming game and becomes a decorating one. You design and construct wall by wall, place furniture from a Decoration Inventory, and design homes for other villagers as well as yourself — cottage, castle or cosy villa, in the developers' words.

Build Mode basics

Construction happens in build mode, which works at the level of individual walls rather than whole rooms. The practical order that avoids rework:

  1. Lay the floor plan and the walls before you buy anything to put inside them.
  2. Place the door and test it before finishing the walls. Door placement produced the largest share of build complaints during the demo: the resource cost of a door was not shown in the UI, and collision around frames caused problems. A room that refuses to register as complete is very often a doorway that is not behaving.
  3. Furnish last. Rooms are recognised by the game once the structure is sound, so decoration cannot rescue a build that has not been accepted.

The Decoration Inventory

Decorating uses a separate Decoration Inventory interface. It is a catalogue of what you own, and it includes a demolish option, so mistakes are reversible by design. Two habits help:

  • Furnish with the room in view so you can see the item against the walls rather than in a list.
  • Pick the room's job first — a kitchen, a workshop, a bedroom — and buy for that, rather than buying whatever looks good and finding somewhere to put it.

Blueprints: how you get new things to build

Blueprints are the game's unlock system for craftable and buyable items. The in-game explanation is short and worth repeating:

  • Blueprints let you buy or craft new items, including seeds, tools and decorations.
  • Every first-time craft pays XP.
  • Crafting sites that have new blueprints available show a small "!" marker above them.

So the answer to "where do I get that?" is usually: find the crafting site with the "!" over it, take the blueprint, and craft the item once.

Houses for other villagers

Moonfrost treats housing as a village-wide project. Alongside your own home you design and build unique homes for the other villagers, and a restored, tidy village is part of why they move back in. If you want the system that prepares the ground for that, read village reconstruction first — cleared roads and repaired buildings come before new houses.

One warning worth repeating

The developers listed a known issue while the demo was live: workbenches deleted in build mode are gone permanently. If you are tidying a room, move the bench rather than removing it.
